THE FLAME – (Karaoke Version) – in the style of Cheap Trick

Released in 1988 on Lap of Luxury, “The Flame” is a powerful rock ballad that became Cheap Trick’s only number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Though initially forced on the reluctant band by Epic Records during a late-80s commercial slump, guitarist Rick Nielsen famously loathed the demo, but producer Richie Zito convinced them it was a perfect match for frontman Robin Zander’s incredible vocal range. The gamble paid off, as Zander’s soaring, vulnerable delivery transformed the outside-written track into a massive global hit, successfully rejuvenating the band’s career for the MTV era.
