Released in 1987, “Carrie” is a quintessential power ballad by the Swedish rock band Europe, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Co-written by Joey Tempest and Mic Michaeli for the album The Final Countdown, the track evolved from a simple keyboard melody into a synth-heavy stadium anthem. Though the lyrics depict a poignant breakup, Tempest has clarified that “Carrie” wasn’t inspired by a specific woman, but rather the collective experience of saying goodbye to people while touring.
